Flip's School of Music's Mission
The longterm goal of Flip's School of Music is to make this earth a better place. How are we doing that? By making a healthier community. How do you do that? By developing a stronger and healthier self. FSM recognizes our students as individuals and not just products that fit one mold. We ask our students to bring their own musical interests to the lesson. By fostering the students musical interests, one is able to develop a healthy knowledge of self. Knowledge of self is the first step towards a healthy human being, which in turn is the first step towards a healthy community and healthy future.

OUR PROGRAMS
All lessons are customized to personally fit your musical needs. We urge (but do not require) all students to learn how to read sheet music and improvise on the spot.

Guitar - Beginner lessons start on proper hand position and strumming technique. We work on simple chord progressions and melodies. More advanced lessons work on style techniques such as improvising and finger-picking. All students are encouraged to work on songs that they have picked and like to play. Styles of lessons for the guitar ranges from blues, to funk, to swing, to folk, to punk, to metal, to ragtime pickin' etc...

Piano - Beginner lessons start on proper playing position. From there, we work on scales and chords. I prefer the Alfred's Basic Piano Series or the Faber and Faber Series of piano methods. Following the student's musical goals, I encourage my students to seek and bring songs that they would like to learn. Styles of lessons for the piano ranges from classical, to jazz, to funk, to pop, to ragtime/stride etc...
Voice - Vocal lessons work on proper breathing, ear training and sight singing. Lessons are structured to improve the vocalists aural skills by mastering the Solfeg scales. As always, students are asked to bring favorite songs that they would like to learn and improve upon. Styles of lessons for the voice range from classical, to pop, to blues, to folk, to jazz etc...
Stringed Instruments - Lessons on the Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass start off with proper playing position. Lessons are set to improve tonality with the bowing hand and accuracy with the left hand.
